How are dry type transformers manufactured?

The manufacturing process of dry-type transformers includes core production, winding, varnishing, assembly, and testing. Silicon steel sheets make the core, high-conductivity wire is used for winding, varnishing is applied to protect insulation, and testing is conducted after assembly to ensure quality.

There are two main types of dry-type transformers:  Vacuum Pressure Impregnated (VPI) Transformers and Encapsulated (VPE) Transformers. Common types include dry power transformers, dry distribution transformers, dry isolation transformers, and dry rectifier transformers.

Dry-type transformers have several disadvantages:

  1. Higher Cost: They are generally more expensive due to advanced materials and technology.
  2. Limited Outdoor Use: Require additional protection outdoors and are less durable in harsh environments.
  3. Poor Moisture and Dust Protection: Compared to oil-filled transformers, they offer less protection against moisture and dust.
  4. Increased Noise Levels: Operate with louder noise due to smaller heat dissipation areas.
